THE STYLE OF THE TSAR IN PRATO
A fascinating experience for the whole family throughout five centuries of relations between Italy and Russia. More than 130 paintings, costumes and fabrics coming from the leading Russian and Italian Museums (such as the Hermitage and the Kremlin Museum or the Uffizi Gallery) are collected for the first time in a great exhibition in Prato. "The Style of the Tsar. Italian and Russian art and fashions between the 14th and the 18th century" takes place in the Textile Museum (via Santa Chiara 24, just in the city centre), once a factory called Cimatoria Campolmi and now restored and evocative location for one of the more largest European Museum regarding the textile manufacturing history. On occasion of “The style of the Tsar” the Museum was also enlarged by restoring a room and enriching the collections (documents, productions and fabrics dating back also to pre-Christian times). The exhibition displays treasures witnessing commercial contacts between Italy and the ancient Muscovy since the late 14th century: embroided silk products which tell both the fashion and the daily life at the Russian and Italian Courts. But the focus is on Peter the Great, first Tsar opening to the western influence. Ancient masterworks of painting complete the overall view about the social, religious and economic context. Opening times until 10th January 2010: from 10 am to 7 pm (last entrance at 6 pm). Entrance fee 9 euros, reductions for groups 7 euros; audio guides also available for 3,50 euros. Closed on the 25th December and 1st January. Families with children between 5 and 11 years old will find special activities with guides connected with the exhibition on Saturday, Sunday, on 26 December 2009 and 6 January 2010: these workshops are free and booking is not requested.
